Spring has arrived in San Antonio, and the bluebonnets are blooming, but they are only here for a season. Often, bluebonnets can be found on a busy thorough fare, and the dangers of stopping on a busy road is probably not the best thing to do with young children. But there are other spots that offer a safe and beautiful spot to enjoy these little Texas gems while they are here. Some great places to consider are Blanco State Park, Guadalupe River State Park, and Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin. These locations are beautiful and have a small admission fee, but they offer some fun hiking and are definitely safer options than the roadside.
Did you know that bluebonnets only bloom for roughly 4-6 weeks? When visiting a patch, take care not to trample them. Bluebonnets are an annual flower, they are planted in the fall (usually early October to early November is best), and begin to germinate. They tend to bloom in the New Braunfels and San Marcos areas earlier than they do in Boerne and San Antonio. About 3-4 weeks after their peak bloom, they begin to set seed. If they are mowed or trampled before they get to this stage, they cannot re-seed for the next year. It often takes 2-3 years for a nice patch of bluebonnets to develop, and each year, if they are cared for and not killed before they set seed, they come back in larger numbers. When we do bluebonnet sessions we encourage clients to bring a seed packet with them so we can all do our part to make sure there are flowers the next year. If you want to have beautiful professional images of your little ones enjoying this Texas tradition, don't hesitate! Limited edition bluebonnet sessions are booking now. We can't wait to work with you!

Are Your Hormones Dragging You Down? | San Antonio Birth, Newborn, and Maternity Photographer | Guest Spotlight-Vital Life Wellness Center
From time to time we like to bring in a guest blogger that we feel has some valuable insight for our clients and fans. This month we asked Stephanie Flores, a local board certified family nurse practitioner (and one of our favorite people!), to shed some light on how she helps moms get down to the root of the problem when they just can't quite figure out how to get their groove back! I hope you find the information useful!
Is this it? Is this all there is to adulthood, motherhood, marriage and career? Remember when you were in your teens or twenties and you would imagine how your life would be once you completed all the homework, graduations, job hunting, life-partner picking, home buying, and child bearing tasks leading up to this point? Is this what you imagined? I certainly did not. I did not anticipate the harried rush of life, the lack of sleep, the persistent fatigue, the extra pounds, the loss of hair, the dull complexion of my skin! How did it get here so quickly?
I now know from personal experience that womanhood in your late 30s+ is an awakening! I too have experienced the symptoms that I frequently evaluate my patients for in my profession as a Nurse Practitioner. I often treat women that come to the clinic within months of having a baby stating they don’t feel themselves, have no sex drive, are irritable, cannot lose weight, are exhausted all day and sleepless all night. Many come in years after having a baby stating they could not find the time to care for themselves, as they have been consumed with caring for their family and careers.
Some of these women do head to the doctor only to find that their thyroid panel is “normal” or their hormones are “normal” with no explanation as to what could be causing their symptoms other than “age”. The truth is, there are many things that can lead to fatigue, insomnia, lack of sex drive, heavy periods, mood swings, irritability, and as such there are many things that can be done to help resolve them other than shipping your kids off to boarding school and getting a divorce.
What needs to be investigated is the root cause of the symptoms. Something that traditional medicine strayed away from as it moved towards treating every symptom under the sun with a medication. This has left patients and some medical providers alike with a desire to seek out and remedy the root cause of symptoms instead of use an array of fancy band-aids to merely stifle them.
And so, Functional Medicine was born! This is an approach to health care that focuses on wellness, prevention, and identification of root causes to ameliorate symptoms or prevent the onset of disease. Some qualified medical doctors, nurse practitioners and other health care providers prefer to utilize this approach when caring for their patients; unfortunately those with the extra training in functional medicine are few and far between.
After working for years in traditional medical clinics, and finding that the stress of life was taking a toll on my body, energy, health and energy, I was fortunate to begin my career at Vital Life Wellness Center in San Antonio. Vital Life Wellness Center specializes in searching out the root causes of symptoms and has been doing so for nearly 10 years. We have board certified physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants with additional training in functional medicine and years of hands on experience helping patients feel their best through optimizing nutrients and hormone balance and identifying issues in their health or lifestyle that cause symptoms or disease. No longer do we have to put up with these symptoms that accompany a “normal” lab panel! If you are interested in optimizing your health, reducing symptoms, or just want something other than a prescribed sleeping pill to help you get a restful sleep at night, let’s talk!

Fall is in the air! Pumpkin Spice everything and Minis!! | San Antonio Fall Mini Sessions | Mamarazzi Photography
It’s that time of year! Autumn is here!
The leaves are turning from green to red (at least I'm told they do that), and there's a fresh crispness in the air.
You and yours sitting next to a roaring fire in the fireplace (or not, I mean it's still like 90 degrees out there some days!!), huddled close together, sipping pumpkin lattes'.
Sounds amazing, right??? Picture perfect even (I can totally help with that!). So what do you need to make this kind of thing happen? I have to admit that the fire may not happen for another month or more... but I have some ideas for you to make the rest of it a reality!
Go grab someone you LURVE, I mean, someone you are beyond loving (hence the LURVE). Significant other, your spouse, heck, even the kids if you want to make it a family affair! Next, you will need an awesome recipe for those oh-so-addicting pumpkin spice lattes'. I searched high and low, experimented in my kitchen, slaved over a pot... okay, maybe I just searched on Food Network.

Ok, so you have someone you adore to snuggle with, you have an amazing cup of yumminess... now you need someone to capture the moment!! Fall Minis are right around the corner (Oct 21-22), and there are ONLY 4 spots left! Be sure you snag one while you still can, and if you can't make it for fall, be sure to check out Halloween Minis for the kiddos (Oct 29), Holiday minis for the family at the Pipe Creek Tree Farm (Nov 19), or have some fun with the big guy himself at our Santa Minis (Dec 4). We'd love to spend some time this holiday season with you and yours! In the mean time, I'm off to grab me a pumpkin spice latte... and gosh that pumpkin bread smells pretty amazing too! :D
This year's Latch-On SA event, hosted by St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, was August 6th, and we at Mamarazzi Photography were honored to be a part of it!
The annual event, designed to raise awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding, was a success!
We met many new mothers and their beautiful babies! All were there to take advantage of the opportunity to learn about and try a variety of infant/newborn products and services. They were also there to simultaneously latch their nurslings on in an effort to help normalize breastfeeding.
Since Mamarazzi Photography specializes in maternity, birth, and newborn through the first year, we often photograph the beautiful bond a mother and child share when breastfeeding. It was our pleasure to offer complimentary nursing sessions as part of the event!
However, if you missed us out there, don’t worry, your goodie bag had a voucher for a nursing mini-session! We are currently booking for the Fall mini-sessions, so be sure to check that out while you are here! We are also booking limited weddings, pregnancy, baby, milestone, cake smash, newborn, and birth sessions into 2017, we'd love to work with you!
Children grow so fast, every season should be captured for a lifetime of enjoyment... because some moments are meant to be cherished!
I photograph most of my tiniest clients indoors in my San Antonio based studio. I do love to photograph outdoors as well, and I figured why not take advantage of our great summer weather and do some outdoor baby sessions! From now through August 31, you can book a Limited Edition Outdoor Newborn session with us! The session must take place during July or August. Sessions will be one hour, and for newborn(s) only. Sessions will be limited to Monday through Friday, and will take place in the San Antonio area, although we may add a couple of specific dates in New Braunfels and surrounding areas if there is enough interest.
This session is a very special introductory price, we have never offered a one-hour session for newborns before! Already booked us for a studio session? Contact us for a special add-on rate! These sessions are for new bookings only, and cannot be substituted for a previously booked newborn session. Call today!!
"Some people don't believe in HEROS... but they haven't met my Dad!" ~ unknown
There is nothing quite as sweet as a man snuggling with, hugging on, and loving his children.
We at Mamarazzi Photography wanted to wish all of the fantastic fathers out there a wonderful Father's Day! Here are just a few of the amazing dads we have had the honor of working with. Enjoy!!
So excited to share this momma's beautiful (fast!) birth story with you! It's always humbling to be chosen to document birth, and I am honored to be there for a little one's journey earth-side. Ashley texted me at 4:15 in the morning to tell me she had been contracting every 4 min for almost an hour. She didn't call yet, so I laid in the bed, debating whether I should go ahead and head up to the hospital, or wait to see what her progress was when she got there. I knew she had planned to labor at home as long as she could, so I opted to hop in the shower and head up there, just in case. She texted two more times while I was in the shower, I had a feeling she was going fast. I was at the hospital at 5:30, by 6:15 they had her in a room. She was 5cm when she arrived in triage at 5:30, and between 7 and 8cm by the time they got her settled in the room. After some intense laboring, and waiting for the doctor to arrive (staff telling her "don't push yet!), little Elijah was born just before 7:30 AM. It was a beautiful birth, and Ashley was absolutely amazing! I hope you enjoy their birth story!
It's that time of year again! Blue blooms are starting to dot the hillsides and roadsides here in Texas. Don't miss out on your chance to participate in a long-standing Texas tradition! Bluebonnet minis are one of the few mini-sessions we offer almost every year, and slots will be open for booking in just 48 hours!
Where did the year go??? I can't believe that 2015 is gone, and today is the first day of 2016!! This year has been amazing, so many awesome families, and sweet little babies. 2015 was a year full of changes and challenges. August marked one of our busiest months to date. August also marked the month my husband left his full-time work to work with me. We have 4 kids, and I must admit that it's a bit scary to be the main income for a family of 6, especially when two of them have special needs. We decided to step out in faith. It's been incredibly rewarding, and in spite of all of the work, it's worth it. We see great potential, and it's exciting to think that we can support our family doing something that we love.
I decided to put together a post of all of the birth stories and newborns I have had the honor of photographing this year. We photographed one fresh 48, 7 births (one chose to remain entirely private, so it is not represented in the image below), and 64 newborn sessions (two sets of twins, so 66 newborns all together)! I can't wait to see what sweet little faces 2016 brings. Bryan and I thank all of our amazing clients from the bottom of our hearts! Here's to more beautiful bellies, births, and babies. Happy New Year!!
I am an artist at heart and have been ever since I can remember. I have been blessed with four beautiful children and an amazing husband. One of my favorite things to do is help others capture beautiful memories that will last a lifetime.
